ALOHA from Kauai, Hawaii

My first vacation and it is to BEAUTIFUL Hawaii. Mommy and Daddy are going to have a hard time topping this vacation/birthday combo. I turned one year old while I was there! Here I am checking out the sand for the first time at Hanalei Bay Beach. Aunt Christina and Uncle Shawn held Alyssa and I in the water. I loved the water even if my lips were blue and my tooth was chattering. Here is a picture of Mommy and my footprints in the sand. She had to help me walk, I wasn’t quite there yet on my own. The next day we went to Waimea Canyon. It is called the Grand Canyon of Hawaii. It was really pretty. The Daddy’s had fun with their girls. After two days of hauling me around Mommy and Daddy bought a snugglie for me to ride in at Wal-mart. It helped for all the hiking we did around the beaches later during the week. Mommy let me ride on her shoulders. She had pigtails in and I like to use them as handles. On the way back from Waimea Canyon we stopped at Kauai Coffee Company. There were plumeria trees right outside. Mommy helped me smell how pretty they are. Look at the view… just beyond the flowering trees were the rows and rows of coffee plants then the ocean just beyond that. I think that is one of the most beautiful things we saw there. Alyssa and Aunt Christina at Kauai Coffee. Alyssa has a little more hair than I do, she looks pretty with a flower in her hair. Another day we hiked down the lava rocks to Queens Bath. We got to see some sea turtles in the ocean. By the time we got to see the bath we were too tired to go swimming, so we hiked back home. Here’s Daddy and Uncle Shawn with us girls resting on the lava rocks. Told you we were tired. Alyssa and I both fell asleep on the hike back up to the house. Here is a picture of a pretty waterfall and the view of the ocean from the trail. It looks like it goes on forever. The house we stayed at was right on a cliff that overlooked the ocean. There were gorgeous sunsets every night! Every day we went to a different beach. Here I am sitting on some lava rocks at Hideaway Beach (which is a very steep hike to get to) and I’m eating my daily dose of sand in the other picture at Tunnels Beach. We also went to a Luau while we were there. There were pretty flowers every where and Daddy loves to take pictures of flowers. Mommy wanted a picture of the family in front of the flowers. I just wanted to run around and chase the peacocks like Alyssa, but I still wasn’t walking on my own quite yet. Alyssa is big enough to chase the birds, looks like fun! There was a cool ceremony when they uncovered the roast pig. Mommy and Daddy said it tasted really good, but I was more interested in the mango! Daddy put me on his shoulders so I could see. Each guest got a shell necklace. This one didn’t last long, it was broken in about 5 minutes! Mommy and I matched in our turquoise outfits. On the north side of the island, where we were staying there is a town called Hanalei. It is where we went shopping and walked around a lot. I had fun in a children’s store riding the dragon. We also went to some other stores, but what left the biggest impression with Alyssa and I was the dog and cat that we got to see. Alyssa loves the doggie. I prefer the kitty. Part of the fun was getting to play on the beach (not necessarily getting greased up with sunscreen), but seriously, Mommy and Aunt Christina took so many pictures. Doesn’t it look like were just saying, “enough already.” Mommy was letting me try on her sunglasses before bedtime one day after the beach. I’m a star in the making! The last day of swimming we went back to the first beach we stopped at, Hanalei Bay. At the pier that is in this picture, a bunch of boys and a few girls were jumping, diving and doing cannon balls off the roof. I had fun watching them with Mommy. We also got in the water and swam. It was so fun! Alyssa was pretty tired, but when she got up from her nap, she was having fun on the beach too. She played around this boat for a long time. The last morning we were there it was more pictures. I was only going to behave for a few more. I mean, come on people, how many pictures do you need of a girl. The ones with Mommy turned out okay, but the Daddy pictures were leaving a little to be desired. Luckily the family shots turned out great. It was such a great trip. I hope we get to go back again sometime! Signing off, Aloha, Alice
